LeadershipIn the design & IT department it is very important to stay on tasks the first few weeks as we have many projects to get done. One of the projects that I took over and made was the company letterhead, this is used when the company sends letters out to others to inform them on one of our products or the company is general. This took a lot of handwork and others critics to make it just how the company wanted it. The next project that I took over was making the "buy buttons" for our website. These are used for when someone wants to buy our product, they just click on the button and it brings them to the VEI portal to buy it. With the help of a few people and me as the leader of this, we were able to complete the buy buttons and upload the website! I think that seeing these motivates other members of the company to make it the best version of the company that it can be. Right now, I would rate my leadership skills a 7/10 because sometimes I like to step up when I am confident in what I am doing, however at other times I am shy and don't want to take on a new task that I am nervous about. In the near future, I plan to improve my leadership skills by stepping outside of my comfort zone more often and taking on new tasks that I don't know much information on. This will hopefully expand my knowledge on projects and build my confidence while taking on a leadership role.
Core Technology
Core technology is all about the different programs that are used while in this department. The main ones that I use are Microsoft word, Photoshop, and square space. I used these platforms this month to create a banner, website, and t-shirt. Although I am not the web master of our company, I think that I played a big role in doing the website by creating our buy buttons. This used lots of skill in technology because I followed the steps in the portal very carefully and the steps in square space carefully in order to assign the right price to item on our website. The website was made on square space so I spent a lot of time on there. The next thing that I worked on this month was a banner, I used Photoshop to create it for the Tennessee trade-show. This used skills such as creativity, neatness, and independence because others were working on other things for the trade-show. Lastly, I worked on our companies t-shirt, I had to make sure that everybody was satisfied using lots of patients. This also taught me how to take critics that others gave me and spin it into something positive. Overall, being in the Design & IT department has taught me how to use some new platforms/programs and how to get even more familiar with some programs that I have used in the past too. Right now, I rate my technology skills an 8/10 because I am good at using the basics on Photoshop, Square space, and Word, however I still find myself seeking help from my peers when I don't know how to edit a certain thing out, or make a certain format look good. In the future, I plan to keep working on these platforms and learning from my peers in order to make things to my fullest potential. my bannerHow the buy buttons workProfessional
Being professional is about how you work in the environment that you are put into. It is a way that you show that you can work well with others. It can also show through responsibility and meeting deadlines on time. Right now I would rate myself at a 8/10. I rate myself this because I am great at working well with others and collaborating on ideas, however sometimes I wait until the last second to get some of my stuff done which isn't something that I should not be doing. One way that I displayed professionalism so far this semester is preparing for the great lakes trade show. I had to do the banner and the catalog is a short amount of time. I believe that I handled the pressure in a professional way by taking it step by step and collaborating with my teammates to get everything done. In the future, I plan to stay on top of what I am working on in order to get everything done on time, along with still collaborating with others and working hard in the work/classroom environment.
FunctionalOverall, I believe that it is very important to focus on the functional aspects of a company to keep the it successful. It is important that a company works together using all of the departments in order to stay on top of things. In this class I think that people need to focus on what they are doing within their departments unless assigned otherwise so we can turn in things on time. Right now I think that I am about a 8/10 in my functional skills. I think I am that because I make sure that I turn things in on time. I also think that I mostly stay focused on my department and the task that we are given. However in the future, I think that I should focus more on one task at a time in order to make it to my fullest potential. As a company goal, I think that we need to be more focused on working together and collaborating with each other in the beginning of class to make things clear of what we are doing. Also, I believe that our company would have better functional skills if people were more focused on the class rather than other things while they were in here. Lastly, our company needs to find a way to really get our sales consistent. One artifact that I have to keep this company functioning is to control store manager with the buy buttons and the promotional codes. This past holiday (valentines day) I made a promotional code and worked with marketing to get the word out to other firms by posting it on social media.
